Hiragana is the main alphabet for Japanese.
There are chinese characters called Kanji.
There is another alphabet which is called Katakana.
Katakana is used mostly for foreign vocabulary.

Note: there isn’t just ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ there’s lots of varying levels of this,
but I’ll give the most common choices for each. F-formal  IF - Informal

How are you? F- (Genkidesuka?) IF – (Genki?)

What’s happening? F- (Doushimasuka?)  IF – (Dousuruka?)

What happened? F- (Doushimashitaka?) IF – (Doushita?)

Good morning. F- (Ohayo Gozaimasu) IF – (Ohayo)

Good afternoon. – F/IF - Konnichiwa

Good evening – F/IF - Konbanwa

Good night. F- (Oyasuminasai) IF – (Oyasumi)

See you later. - F- (Sayonara.) IF – (Ja, ne.)

It’s a pleasure to meet you. F- (Hajimemashite, douzo yoroshiku onegaeshimasu.) IF – (Douzo yoroshiku OR hajimemashite.)

See you in the morning. – Mata, Asa ni.

See you in the evening.  – Mata, yoru ni.

See you tomorrow. – Mata ashita.

Congratulations - F- (Omedetou gozaimasu) IF – (omedetou)

Happy Birthday – F – (Otanjoubi omedetou gozaimasu) IF (tanjoubi omedetou)

Have a good trip. – Ryokou wo tanoshii de kudasai.

How old are you? – F – (Nan-sai desuka?) IF – (someone’s name Ikutsu?)

I am seven months old. ( Watashi wa nanagatsu desu.)

I am eight years old. (Watashi wa hassai desu)

I am seventeen years old.  (Watashi wa juunansai desu)

I am forty years old. (Watashi wa yonjuusai desu)

I am eighty-four years old. Watashi wa hachijuuyonsaidesu

Note: The adjectives will be the same for male and female, just fill them in the blank space. You can omit the words before the blanks too, it might sound more natural.

MALE: Ore ga __________ daze.

FEMALE: Atashi wa _______wayo.

I am tired. - Tsukareta.

I am busy. -  Isogashii.

I am bored. Tsumaranai.

I am happy. Ureshii.

I am anxious. Dokidoki suru.

I am sick. Byoki ga aru.

I am frustrated. Yabukeru.

I am annoyed. - Urusagaru.

I am sad. - Kanashii.

I am hungry – Onaka ga pekopeko.
