 Fue un accidente terrible. El conductor del coche azul conducía con mucha velocidad y atravesó la luz roja. El conductor del coche rojo tuvo una luz verde y los coches tuvieron un gran impacto.  Ambos conductores fueron heridos y fueron llevados al hospital por (una) ambulancia.

It was a terrible accident. The driver of the blue car drove very quickly and crossed (went through) the red light. The driver of the red car had a green light and the cars (they) had a big impact.  Both drivers (they) were injured and (they) were taken (brougt) to the hospital by (an) ambulance.

"fue - he was, she was, it was", comes from the, "third person", "pretérito - preterit" tense of the verb "ser". The pretérito tense expresses an action that was completed at some time in the past.
conducir - to drive
"conducía - he drove, she drove" -  comes from the "third person" form of "imperfecto de indicativo - imperfect indicative" tense of the verb "conducir". - (1) The imperfecto de indicativo tense is an action that was going on in the past at the same time as another action. (2) An action that was going on in the past when another action occured. (there are more rules to the "imperfecto de indicativo", but you will learn more later.)
atravesar - to cross, to go beyond
"atravesó - he crossed, she crossed, it crossed", comes from the, "third person", "pretérito - preterit" tense of the verb "atravesar". The pretérito tense expresses an action that was completed at some time in the past.
tener - to have
"tuvo - he had, she had, it had",  comes from the, "third person", "pretérito - preterit" tense of the verb "tener". The pretérito tense expresses an action that was completed at some time in the past.
