UNDER THE EDITING PROCESS
There is a familiar way and a formal way to ask what someone needs.
The familiar way is,
¿Necesitas tú? - Do you need? (familiar)
The formal way is,
¿Necesita usted? - Do you need? (formal)
In these videos you will also learn,
the familiar way without the pronoun.
¿Necesitas? - Do you need? (familiar)
and you will learn the formal way without the pronoun.
¿Necesita? - Do you need? (formal)
Yo necesito - I need
(You can also just say, "necesito - I need")
Tú necesitas - you need
(You can also just say, "necesitas - you need")
Él necesita - He needs
Ella necesita - She needs
Ellos necesitan - They need
Nosotros necesitamos - We need
"Él necesita" and "ella necesita" can both be said without the pronoun,
but when you speak without the pronoun, you must know who you are talking about.
for ie.
If you say "Él necesita el libro. - He needs the book." This is clear, but if you say,
"Necesita el libro." without having a reference to somone before hand, you don't
know who are you speaking about.
Question: Is "necesita" the same as "¿Necesita? ?
"Necesita" is the statement form and ¿Necesita? is the question form.
ie.
Necesita la pluma. - He needs the pen.
¿Necesita la pluma? - Does he need the pen?
Question: How do I differentiate between "¿Necesita?" and "Necesita" when speaking?
That has to do with the intonation of your voice. ¿Necesita? sounds different than
"necesita."
Question: Does "necesita" mean He needs, She needs and you need?
Answer: Yes,
Question: Can I say, "¿Necesita?" - Does he/she/you need?
Yes, but you need to be clear in the conversation to whom you are speaking about.
Él necesita or ¿Necesita él?
Ella necesita or ¿Necesita ella?
Ud. necesita or ¿Necesita ud.(usted)?
Question: I understand that "¿Necesita? is the formal way of saying, "Do you need?"
Is "Él necesita" the formal way of saying "He needs."?
No, Necesita is used for él, ella and usted. "It's "usted that is the formal way of
saying "you". So when you say, "¿Necesita Usted?" It's the "usted" that makes it formal.
¿Tú" is used when speaking to people you know and to children, also known as familiar.
When you say, "¿Necesitas tú?, you are saying Do you need? when you say,
"Tú necesitas", you are saying, "you need." "Tú necesitas una chaqueta." - You need a jacket.
¿Necestias una chaqueta? - Do you need a jacket? (that was without the pronoun "tu")
When you say "necesitas" whether in a question or statement, you don't ever have an issue
with who you are speaking to, beceause in the "ar" verbs like "necesitar", the "tú form is always
and only about "you" familiar. It's the "usted" formal that shares with "él and ella".
Question: Is this the same with all "ar" verbs?
Answer: Yes, It's the same with all "ar" verbs but I am sure there are exceptions, just can't think
of any at the moment.
Question: Can you please explain the difference between first person, second person?
Answer, Yes, it's quite simple
The first person is "I"
The sceond person is "you"
The third person is he and she, but in spanish the third person is also "you" formal.
If you were to look inside the 501 verb book and open it up to "necesitar" you would see
at the top left, "presente de indicativo". This is your present tense. In the "presente de indicativo"
you will see
necesito - that is first person. - yo necesito
necesitas - that is second person - tú necesitas
necesita - that is third person - él, ella, usted necesita
All verbs "ar" "ir" and "er" verbs are all set up in 1st, 2nd and 3rd person.
