When do you use the articles "la" or "el"?
Think of "la" and "el" as "the" in English.
(As you get deeper into learning Spanish, you will get rid of that idea.)
When a noun ends in an "a" as in "lima",
use the "la" article. "la lima - the lime".
When a noun ends in an "o" as in "dormitorio",
use the "el" article."el dormitorio - the bedroom".
There are nouns that don't follow the rules, and
a noun will end in an "o" or an "a", but use the opposite article.
for ie. "la radio" "el programa"
When you come across these kinds of nouns, just accept it!

"el coche" - the car "la televisión" - the television
so you must memorize the article for these kinds of nouns
and accept it!
