Question: Why is it that sometimes "al" is used instead of "a el"
Answer: "to the supermarket - a el supermercado" the "a" and the "el" get joined together to make
"al - to the" (This keeps the vowels "a" and "e" away from each other.)
"to the beach - a la playa." (Since "la" doesn't start with the vowel "e", the "a" and the "la" do not have to be combined together.)
